Q: Why should I buy a complete pulley system, instead of individually piecing something together?

+

A: Although you may save a little money upfront by purchasing individual pulleys and brackets, the problem arises when you buy different components from different sources. In many cases these components are not made to work together thus resulting in a halt of the systems performance all together. Now, you not only have a non-functional structure, but you have also wasted money you could have invested into a complete pulley system. In addition, a huge advantage of buying a complete pulley system is that the fit and ratios for the accessories have been engineered to work together and fit the different blocks, heads etc. The end result is a perfectly pieced system that won't run the risk of malfunctioning due to mismatched sections.

Q: How do I choose an alternator for my pulley system?

+

A: Check out our guide on How to Choose an Alternator. You can view it as a web page or download the PDF.

Q: Do Concept One's kits clear the cross member on a C2 or C3 Corvette (1963 - 1982)?

+

A: Our Big Block Victory & Basic Kits, Small Block Victory & Basic Kits, and LS Victory kits will normally clear the cross member on your C2 or C3 Corvette. However, issues such as age, condition, manufacturer, etc. of motor mounts can cause clearance problems.  Fortunately, most clearance issues can be solved by putting a spacer between the engine and the motor mount.  This was a factory solution for GM on 1966-74 big block Corvettes with air conditioning.  The factory style spacers are reproduced and are available from various Corvette suppliers listed below.  They are specified for big block, but they will fit Chevy small block engines as well.

1963 - 1964 engines will most likely have to be shimmed upward for the crank pulley to clear the cross member. Make sure you have enough hood clearance!

Q: I have the old style 327 engine with no accessory bolt holes in the heads. Do you have a system that will work?

+

A: Yes, for those wanting to run AC, our Chevy Small Block Victory Series Kit mounts without bolting to the heads. Also, if you are not running AC we have a Chevy Small Block Basic Kit that will work on those engines.

Q: What is the difference between a long waterpump and a short waterpump on your Ford Small Block kit?

+

A: The long waterpump is the same length as the stock waterpumps used from the 1960's to 1993. The long waterpump kit is designed to work ith the 1986-1993 5.0 lilter Mustang waterpump (Ford Racing Performance Parts number M-8501-C50). This is a reverse rotation waterpump with the water inlet on the driver's side. The short waterpump kit requires a 1994-1995 Mustang 5.0 liter waterpump. If more room is needed between the engine and the radiator, this combination will give you about two more inches of clearance than the long waterpump. Keep in mind that to run the short waterpump, you will have to change your timing cover and run an electric fuel pump. A water pump and timing cover kit is available from Ford Racing Performance Parts (number M-8501-A50).

Q: What kind of harmonic damper / balance do I need for my Ford small block engine?

+

A: All of our small block Ford kits
require the four bolt damper used from 1971 and up, on the 302 and the 351, and 1980 and up on the 5.0 liter. Some Ford Racing Performance Parts dampers have both a three and four bolt pattern. These dampers can be used but will require the use of a spacer, either FRPP# M-8510-B351 or FRPP# M-8510-C351.

Q: What kind of harmonic damper / balance do I need for my Ford FE?

+

A: You will need the 1968 or newer type three bolt damper where the pulley unbolts from the damper to fit your Ford FE.

Q: Do you powder coat your parts?

+

A: No, we do not. The reason we do not: Eventually the coating is going to start turning a dingy color and / or start to flake off, especially on the friction surfaces where the belts ride. Our parts require a little more maintenance, but you can always make them look new again.

Q: My power steering pump is making noise; what should I do?

+

A: Start your engine and carefully fill the reservoir with the engine running. Install the cap before shutting the engine off.

Q: I'm looking for some more information on cooling systems and how they work; can you help?

+

A: Absolutely! Just visit our page on cooling system basics.

Q: Will serpentine belts help to fix belt slippage?
