Ford 351 Clevor Application Info
This system works with 9.5" deck height Windsor block. Not compatible with 9.2" deck height aftermarket blocks.
Step-by-Step Hole Drilling for OE Cleveland Head
We recommend that you drill and tap a hole in the outside upper corner of the passenger side head for mounting the Tensioner bracket. The instructions are as follows.
Step 1. Find template in instructions.
Step 2. Cut out template.
Step 3. Locate template on edge of head at block, edge of head at intake, edge of head at valve cover. Then check the location of the existing bolt hole in the face of the head. Screw 7/16-14 into the hole. The hole should line up very close to the hole on the template.
Step 4. With bolt and edges located, tape the three sides to hold template in place.
Step 5. Center punch the center of the circle located in the top-left corner.
Step 6. The depth to drill the hole is 7/8”. Use smaller drill to pilot drill the hole. A 3/16 drill or close will work well. Measure 7/8 inch on your drill and put a piece of tape around the drill so you can know how deep to go.
Step 7. Pilot drill to depth. Make sure to keep drill bit perpendicular to the block. You want it as straight as possible.
Step 8. Drill hole with tap drill size U, if you don't have a letter drill U you can use a 3/8; it is the next size up.
Step 9. Tap hole with 7/14 tap. Put some oil on the tap and it will tap easier. Make sure tap is perpendicular to the hole, as straight as possible.
Step 10. Hole drilled and tapped. Make sure to blow hole out with compressed air. Wear safety glasses.
Step 11. Mount bracket.
Brackets and pulley system all bolted up.
Long Waterpump
Long waterpump (SFL) pulley systems are the same length as factory Ford standard rotation systems and will fit most applications. Must change to a reverse rotation waterpump, but most 1970 & up timing covers will work. Works with electric or mechanical fuel pump.
Waterpump: 1986-93 Mustang 5.0 - Ford Racing #M-8501-C50. Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): Ford #F3ZZ8501B, Gates #43272 (OE) or #43272P (performance), GMB #1251560 (OE) or #1251560P (performance), AC Delco #252669, Motorcraft #PW291 |

Which Waterpump and Timing Cover Do I Have?
Use these pictures to identify which waterpump and timing cover you have. As always, there are exceptions to this illustration. Particularly, some late model Long Waterpump timing covers may have the fuel pump boss either blocked off or not there at all. Don't hesitate to call us if you have a question.

Block Accessory Hole
Most 1970 and newer blocks have an accessory hole on the passenger side of the front face of the block. Most older blocks do not have this hole. Our standard kits have a bracket that bolts to this hole, but we have an alternate bracket that bolts to the ground strap hole for blocks where this hole is not present. There is no difference in price, we just need to know if this hole is present or not.
|
Boss blocks including the new Ford Racing Boss block have an unmachined boss and no drilled and tapped hole. To make matters worse, the ground strap hole has been moved on this block so our alternate bracket will not fit. The best solution for Boss blocks is to grind the unmachined surface as flat as possible and drill and tap the hole for our standard bracket.
Additional Notes
- Kits are designed for use with electric cooling fans. If you need to run a mechanical fan, we can make modifications to the waterpump pulley. Also, if you use a mechanical fan, remember that this kit uses a reverse rotation waterpump, so make sure the fan is a reverse rotation fan.
- When using Concept ONE kits in older Fords with the radiator inlet on the passenger side, lower radiator serpentine conversion hoses are available for some applications or custom hoses such as Cool-Flex® can be used to reroute the radiator hose.
- Ford 90° thermostat housings are recommended
- Typical rack & pinion units used in the aftermarket are the Mustang 2 (less common) and the Fox Body Mustang / Thunderbird racks (more common). Mustang 2 racks generally need to run in the 800-900 psi pressure range. Fox Body Mustang / Thunderbird racks (NAPA part number often used - 22-203F) generally run in the 1100-1200 psi range
